REGRET

You said you'd love me forever
I said the same and then the wind changed
You fell away from my heartless heart
I wasn't the man you hoped to change me to be.

Dangled my participles at the end of the line
Couldn't get my head to screw on right
She loved me, she loved me not
Ballerina, stripper, wife, mother of light.

Fight for you, die for you, until you said stop
It was over, it pretended to die
But it was too strong for death
Neither heroin nor hashish, no regret.

That is not the truth, not even half of it
I want you back, I have deep regret
For leaving and letting you go to hell
Without me to protect you in the battle.

I can't stalk you though, that feels too crass
I'll just think protective thoughts
And spread their invisible wings to carry power
Of impenetrable defense against unstoppable offense.

You may have a random thought of my presence
That will be my only satisfied intention
I'll love you forever, aslong as you breathe
But you won't know it and I'll have no regret.
