I went to church every single Sunday, to serve the priest’s mass before the saving, gold cow
Turning bread and wine into an imaginary transubstantiation of a flesh body and sanguine
Bejeweled chalice of gold runneth over for the sips of the sacrificial lamb’s pretending sin
As if God or the son or daughter of God could ever do anything wrong, please, come on now!
Benefit of the doubt given, monks, priests, nuns, holy men, holy women and half blind birds
That is the absolute and only path to the peace generated by that practice of trusting words
As if the people who knew the words before you could not have been deceived, magic sounds
With no infinite dialectic yet steeped in Earth’s mystic, muddy water, watch out for clowns.
